BURNT HILLS RUNS AWAY WITH CROWN.(SPORTS)

Four Burnt Hills girls raced into the top five, leading their team to victory Saturday in the Varsity Girls II race of the 28th Annual Guilderland Cross Country Invitational at Tawasentha Park.

Ansku Jalonen was first and was followed by teammates Alyssa Kinney (2nd), Leah Folmsbe (3rd) and Sarah Hollard (5th), helping Burnt Hills accumulate 22 points.

Bethlehem's Katie Parafinczuk was fifth.

Bethlehem and Burnt Hills placed fourth and fifth, respectively, in the Varsity Boys II race, while Ichabod Crane was sixth.

Guilderland's Dan Amato was third in that race, while Bethlehem's Clarke Foley finished fifth. Joe Pierta (Ichabod Crane) and Kirk Courneen (Guilderland) placed 9th and 10th, respectively.

In the Varsity Boys I race, Colonie finished sixth, while Albany Academy ended up sixth.

The Cadets' Mike Keefrider (fifth) and Oscar Tassinari (10th) ran strong races, while Colonie's Bob Bober placed eighth.

In the Girls' Varsity I race, Ichabod Crane (5th), Colonie (6th) and Albany (8th) placed in the top 10.

Ichabod Crane's Erin Colton came in 15th.

Guilderland won the all-around school trophy for best scores for all boys and girls varsity, JV and freshman races. Bethlehem placed second, and Burnt Hills was third. FORT PLAIN INVITATIONAL

Sean Mulcahy took individual honors to pace La Salle to the team title in the boys' large school division of the Fort Plain Cross Country Invitational.

Teammate Tim Caramore placed second as the Cadets totaled 49 points. Johnstown was second with 129 and Ilion was third.

In the girls' large school division, Lansingburgh finished first with 46 points and Mohonasen was second with 93.

Kate Underwood of Johnstown won the individual race, while Lansingburgh's Felecia Edwards and Christine Bensi finished second and third, respectively.

In the boys' small school division, Chris Stanzione's first-place finish led Catskill (56 points) to the team title. Greenville's Garry O'Halloran was second and Joe Richards of Schuylerville came in third.

Corinth was second in the team race with 72 points and Schuylerville (74) placed third.

In the girls' small division, Schuylerville (43) nipped Mechanicville (55) for the team title. Corinth was third with 121 points.

In the individual race, Corinth's Brianna Capasso led all finishers. Schuylerville's Bridget Ainsworth was second and Mechanicville's Majel Noonan finished third. HERRMANN PROCTOR INVITATIONAL

Kate Twarog won the individual race in a time of 18:01, the sixth fastest time in the history of the meet, as she led Colonie to the first-place finish in Utica.

Teammate Jen Kramer placed second in a time of 18:40, the 15th best in the meet's history.

Other top Colonie finishers were: Sara Lamback, fourth; Ashley Tremblay, eighth; Nicole Susser, 10th and Julie Franco, 12th.

Colonie finished with 25 points to nip Shenendehowa, which had 26 points. Averill Park placed fourth in the 25-team field. RED RAIDER RUN

Shaker finished second in both the girls and boys' team standings in the invitational at the Anthony Wagner State Run near Bear Mountain.

In the girls' race, Shaker tallied 55 points to finish second to Washingtonville (44).

The top Shaker finishers were: Kristin Abdelnour (6th), Erin Probst (7th), Tara Sheedy (10th), Meghan Beaver (13th), MacKenzie Hillard (19th) and Jessica Mullens (27th).

In the boys' race, Shaker (83) placed second to Warwick Valley (33).

The top Blue Bison finishers were: Justin Corelli (4th), Scott Barbuto (6th), Brian Tefft (14th), Jared Paul (24th), Nick Terffiletti (35th) and Dan Odabashian (44th).
