NT: Up to 500 flood evacuees to shelter in Katherine

Up to 500 people airlifted from flooded Top End communities will spend tonight in a
tent city on the Katherine showground.

And dozens are expected to remain camped overnight on high ground near the Kalkaringi
airstrip -- 350km to the south-west -- until more planes can reach them tomorrow morning.

Commander GARY MANISON -- in charge of the air evacuation -- says the transportation
has been slower than anticipated because of an aircraft shortage …
