NSW:Government offers 1400 extra nurses in NSW

At least an extra 14-hundred full-time equivalent nurses could begin working in New
South Wales hospitals if the NSW Nurses' Association accepts a state government offer.

General secretary BRETT HOLMES says if the offer's accepted .. the jobs will be filled
over the next two-and-a-quarter years .. with an estimated two thousand graduate nurses
available.

The additional jobs are being offered by the government alongside a 9.7 per cent incremental
pay rise for nurses .. backdated to July 2010 and due to be introduced over the next two
years.

The NSWNA Council met last night to discuss the offer .. but is waiting to receive
the last few details before making a recommendation to members.

The offer was made following industrial action in early January that closed public
hospital beds right across the state.
